12 At Home Date Night Ideas

Last week we got the word that Governor Cuomo has extended our stay-at- home order, here in New York, to at least May 15th. That’s just under another month suck at home with my husband, hurray (*insert sarcastic laugh here). Honestly though, throughout this time, we have managed to get along pretty well and I attribute a lot of that to our intentional date nights.

Date nights are seriously important to any relationship and even though we can’t go to our usual spots like the movies or our favorite restaurants, we’re still making a point to do our date nights at home. Having our date night gives us something to look forward and really gives us time to connect where much of our time at home still involves working. Because I’m sure there are some of you out there, who either haven’t been doing their date nights or need a few new fresh ideas to spice things up, I figured I share my 12 at home date night ideas to give you some inspiration and spark some romance.

1.Take Salsa Lessons
Or any other dance class for that matter. I suggest salsa because its fun, it’s beginner friend and it will bring you close, on a physical level. There are tons of youtube tutorials that you can try like this one.

2. Cook a Fancy Meal
This one has been a staple in our house even before the pandemic. We are basically cooking all of our meals right now but on date nights, we look up a great fancy meal and spend time cooking it together. If you’re not that great at cooking there are meal service like Home Chef or Blue Apron that provide the ingredients and recipes for a great meal.

3. Take a trip down memory lane

Grab your photo albums or your Google photos account and look back on all the cool adventures you’ve been on together. Try to remember when and where a photo was taken and have fun recounting you different versions of what happened.

4. Have a Ice cream sundae night

We are ice cream people. I mean we have a whole Instagram account about it. So we love the idea of making ice cream sundaes together as a date night. Pick up a couple of cartons of your favorite flavors, some great topping and live out your childhood dream.

5. Have a board game night

I am super competitive so game nights get a bit wild in our house hold but we have so much fun playing board games. Pick up some classics at Target or via Amazon. Friendly wagers are definitely encouraged.

6. Have a movie marathon

Pop some popcorn and cue a list of your favorite movies. Take turns picking them.

7. Have a sip and paint night

Sip and paint is a cute and fun date night activity. Grab some paint and your favorite adult beverages and paint together. What you paint is up to you but making a portrait of each other could be really fun.

8. Do home improvement projects together
Now is the perfect time to tackle that home improvement project that you’ve been putting off. Why not making it fun by doing it together. May grab some beers or wine get to work. Whether it painting, tiling or putting together furniture its fun to build together.

Robbie and I recent did a balcony redo that not only looks amazing but bring us joy every time we look at it because we did it together.

9. Make an at home spa
Grab your robes, put on face masks, light some candles and turn your bed into a massage table. Take turns giving each other romantic massages or take a nice bath together.

10. Plan a trip together
Flights are super cheap right now, so why not take this time to plan travels for later this year or next year.

11. Check out the virtual exhibits at the Met

One of our favorite things to do BC (before covid) was to check out the many museums that our city has to offer. Fortunately, museums like the Met are offering virtual visits. Its a great way to see some are and to support our cultural landmarks in these hard economic times.

12. Have your own wine tasting
This is Robbie and I’s plan for date night this week. We ordered a box of different wines from Winc and we’re going to make a charcuterie board and have our very own wine tasting. Use this link to get $20 off of your first order.

I hope you all enjoyed these 12 at home date night ideas. I would love to hear about some of your favorites and some others that you’ve tried in the comments.
